St. Francis

from $15.00

St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma, Louisiana is a part of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Established in 1847 in a Romanesque style that was damaged in a hurricane in the 1920's. The current church was built in 1938 and up until the early 1990's the church was flanked by majestic oaks and centered behind a grand fountain. This painting is a nod back to those days when the courtyard was transformed by gentile breezes blowing through the leaves and the sounds of the city was drowned out by the serene splashes of the fountain.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
