Rain on Magazine
Magazine St., in the French Quarter of New Orleans, is named after an ammunition magazine or warehouse that was built on the street in the late eighteenth century. The street is flanked by shops, restaurants, and private residences, dripping with wrought iron balconies and the cities finest architecture.
‘Rain on Magazine’ is my first painting depicting falling rain splashing and forming puddles below. I make it a point to incorporate some element of motion and movement into each piece. My favored part of completing a painting is adding those dancing light auras around a street lantern. I enjoy the way the light plays like fire flies at dusk creating a vibration. Each one of my paintings captures a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in, taking in all the flavor of my surroundings. It’s up the viewer to decide if the painting is one set in the present or 300 years ago.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
