JAX

from $110.00

Growing up in New Orleans, there are certain landmarks, stores, restaurants and colors that are just naturally “Nawlins.” Among them, the large glowing red letters of JAX on the skyline which have always felt like home. They’re a forever fixture that brings a sense of nostalgia for days gone bye. Even if you’re not a beer drinker, there’s something reassuring about that familiar sign, a reminder of a time when things seemed simpler. As the world changes rapidly around us, there’s comfort in knowing that certain elements of the city, like the JAX sign, remain constant.

In the 1880s, New Orleans earned the title of the “Brewing Capital of the South,” boasting 50 breweries listed in the city directory. The Jackson Brewing Company, founded in 1890, stood out as the largest brewery in the South for nearly 85 years and was the only New Orleans brewery to survive Prohibition. JAX Beer became one of the Southeast’s most popular drinks at the height of its production, a symbol of local pride and craftsmanship. The brewery’s name paid tribute to General Andrew Jackson, who led the victory at the Battle of New Orleans and its location across from Jackson Square only added to its significance, grounding it in the city’s rich history.

I paint in an impasto style using oil paint with palette/painting knives. Painting with palette knives allow a freedom I never enjoyed with brushes. I'm drawn to New Orleans cityscapes and Louisiana landscapes. I'm inspired by the vibrant vivid colors and heavy textures achieved with this three dimensional painting style. I enjoy capturing a view that I would enjoy spending a couple of hours in front of, taking in all the flavor of my surrounding.
